Anyone who’s worked a Perth summer knows how quickly a dry site can become a dusty one. It can make roads harder to see, interrupt work and lead to complaints from neighbouring properties. If you’re planning earthworks, civil construction or subdivision work over summer, it’s worth sorting your water truck hire while you’re organising the rest of your equipment.
At ZELVi Equipment, we supply water trucks for hire in Perth and regional WA, with our own transport team to get them to site.
Keeping Dust Under Control
Regular watering helps keep dust down where trucks and machinery are moving throughout the day.
The amount of water you need will depend on the ground, weather and site traffic. Too little won’t keep up with the dust, while too much can leave slippery surfaces and muddy access roads.
Having a water truck on hand gives your crew more control as conditions change.
Getting Moisture Right for Compaction
Water trucks have a job to do beyond dust control.
When you’re placing fill or preparing road base, moisture affects how the material compacts. A water truck lets you apply water across the work area as part of that process, helping your crew prepare the material before the roller comes through.
For civil and subdivision projects, planning water access alongside your earthmoving equipment can save time once work starts.
Organising your water truck alongside your roller hire helps keep site preparation and compaction moving.
Where Water Trucks Come in Handy
Common uses include:
- Dust control on haul roads and laydown areas
- Moisture conditioning for fill and road base
- Civil works, subdivisions, mining and quarry projects
- Landscaping and revegetation watering
- Site clean-up and wheel-washing tasks, where suitable equipment is fitted
Water on site can also support fire precautions during dry conditions, although a water truck doesn’t replace your site’s fire controls or any restrictions on hot works.

What to Check Before You Book
The right truck depends on the job. Before booking, let our team know what you’re working on, where the site is and how long you’ll need it.
Tank capacity and refill access
A larger tank can reduce refill trips, but access matters too. Think about where the truck will fill up and how far that point is from the work area.
Spray equipment
Tell us whether you need to water haul roads, condition soil or reach particular areas. We can confirm the truck’s fittings suit the work you have planned.
Ground conditions and site access
Narrow access, soft ground and tight turning areas all affect which truck will work on your site.
Hire period and delivery
Whether it’s a short job or a longer project, organising dates and transport early makes it easier to have the truck ready when your crew needs it. Our machinery transport service can help coordinate equipment delivery across Perth and regional WA.
Water Trucks, Earthmoving Equipment and Transport Through One Team
ZELVi is a family-owned equipment hire business based in Perth. We understand that start dates move, site requirements change and equipment sometimes needs to be organised quickly.
Alongside water trucks, we hire excavators, skid steers, loaders and attachments. If you need several machines for the same project, our team can help coordinate the hire and delivery.
We also have in-house mechanics, field service support and BOA mobile hose repair to help when equipment needs attention on site. Our field service trailer brings scheduled servicing and maintenance to your site. If a hydraulic hose fails, ask our team about mobile hydraulic hose repair.
Water Truck Hire FAQs
Do I need a special licence to drive a water truck or water cart?
It depends on which machine you hire.
Our Isuzu water truck requires a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence and is suited to road driving and travelling longer distances between sites.
Our Wacker Neuson water carts (DV90 and DV125) don’t require an HR licence for off-road site use. They’re better suited to rough terrain and moving around a job site, rather than long-distance travel. Operators still need to be competent and meet any site requirements.
Unsure which one suits your job? Talk to the ZELVi team and we’ll help you choose.
How much does water truck hire cost?
Pricing depends on the truck, hire period and delivery location. Send us your project details and we’ll put together a quote.
Do you offer dry hire?
Yes, ZELVi supplies water trucks on dry hire. You arrange the driver, and our team can talk you through the requirements for the truck you’re booking.
Can you deliver to regional WA?
Yes. Our transport team delivers equipment across Perth and regional WA. Let us know your location so we can confirm delivery arrangements.
How early should I book?
As soon as your project dates are reasonably clear. Booking ahead gives us more time to organise the truck and transport, particularly during busy summer periods.
What licence does the driver need?
The required licence depends on the vehicle. Confirm the licence class and any site requirements with our team before arranging your driver.
